HON-SUITA AWASEDO with NASHI-JI & RENGE 203 - 77 - 33mm 1.4 kg. = 3.1 lbs. Reads on the stone top from the upper right down in small kanji GOKUJO (extremely fine quality). And in larger kanji to the left HON-SUITA (the name of the strata) And down the middle reads ASAHI (morning sun). At the lower right reads IPPON SEN (first choice select) This Hon-Suita stone has a touch of NASHI-JI (skin of the pear dot pattern) and a few flecks of RENGE (lotus flower) upon a very even grained lightly varigated almost cloud like base. Weighing in at over 3 pounds the stone has enormous character and a very pure and even composition. Maybe one of my best stones. This is a very fine grit stone that produces a classic hazy like finish to the hard steel hagane that you can see in the photos while leaving the soft iron jigane contrasty. This is not a difficult stone to use. See a grit test comparison HERE for this stone #63. I found the grit base to be about 40,000 and with compression the grit particles will easily crush down into the mid 42,000s range if not finer.
