SHIRO SUITA AWASEDO w/Renge
209 - 75 - 40mm
1.7 kg. = 3.9 lbs.
A full site fast cutting stone with lots of renge particles
that boots this to make this a winning stone. In fact from the side of the stone you can
see the renge in layer after layer right down towards the beautifully rich
natural skin on the back. This stone has a grit base of in the low 40,000 range and produces the classic hazy mirror to the hard steel hagane while
leaving the soft steel jigane soft and contrasting. This stone can be used
with any steel, white or blue.
The stone is visually very pleasing with a peach color glow with rich
flecks of red lotus flower renge particles. It was probably marked Hon
Suita when it was new.
This is a very hard stone and requires some experience
in sharpening, but the aid of a DN will tame this stone and make it much
easier to use. After being photographically compared to the the grit of the
Shapton 30,000 I would consider this Suita #50 to be well into the 40,000's grit level
to the 42,000 range.
