SUITA AWASEDO
224 - 82 - 48mm
2.25 = 4.95 lbs.
From the top right in smaller kanji SAIKOKYUHIN
(very best quality)
Reads on the stone top from the upper left down in
kanji in larger letters SHO HONZAN SUITA TOISHI (correct original mountain finish
suita strata stone).
And down the middle right again SAIKOKYUHIN
A massive and true grade 24 awasedo. These large over sized stones are
nearly impossible to find in this quality, even in Japan. They are very useful if you are
sharpening the wider 80mm kanna blades and this stone will last a lifetime
owing to the thickness and scale of the surface area.
The top shows
particles of nashi-ji and the su or behive pattern is very prominent and
open, both of these qualities aid in sharpening. The overall grain is very
regular and even, typical of high grade stones.
This is a hard deep strata suita stone and some sharpening experience
is necessary to get the full potential out of this stone. Using a diamond
nagura does help and the slurry from the DN greatly advances the cutting
speed of these hard stones.
The back of the stone is hand chiseled and shows areas of the outer
skin.
